Unlikelies

In the fall of 2023, fellow Evana Pastor Gil Michel preached a word at Dayspring based on the story of Jephtha from Judges 11. He taught about how Jephtha was considered unworthy by his half-brothers because of his mother’s status, and that he was driven out into the land of Tob, where he collected “worthless fellows.”

Eventually, Jephtha and these “worthless” men fought and won against the Ammonites, who had been oppressing the Israelites. This shows how God uses people the world calls “unlikely.” Even Jephtha’s own brothers dismissed him, but God knew the gifts and potential in Jephtha, and used him and the rest of his “unlikely” followers to do His work.

In the same way, Pastor Gil prophesied that Dayspring will be visited by “unlikely” people who will become leaders that we are to pastor, to steward, and to send out. If you have ever been discounted, dismissed, or been called an “unlikely” person for God to use, you’re not alone! But we believe and have seen that God can and does use His people – all of His people – when we steward our gifts and make ourselves available.
